After being canceled over the COVID-91 pandemic, the Broadway in Fresno production of ‘Waitress’ will finally open. What to know.

    The second time is the charm for the Broadway in Fresno production of “Waitress.”

    On Monday, Jan. 24, the curtain will be raised as the Tony Award-nominated musical opens at the Saroyan Theatre at the Fresno Convention Center.

    Featuring original music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner Sara Bareilles“Waitress” was first set to open in Louisville in 2020 when the pandemic shut down Broadway and all its touring productions.

    The musical tells the story of Jenna, a food server and expert pie-maker, who dreams of a way out of her small town and rocky marriage. Pouring her heart into her pies, she crafts desserts that mirror her topsy-turvy life such as “The Key (Lime) to Happiness Pie” and “Betrayed By My Eggs Pie.”
